Wheat-aware Asian meals
Asian-inspired meals can be excellent for wheat-aware eating, but some ingredients need careful checking.
Common wheat-risk ingredients
- Regular soy sauce or shoyu
- Ramen, udon, somen, and many wheat noodles
- Tempura batter, panko, and bread crumbs
- Packaged curry roux, teriyaki sauce, hoisin, oyster sauce, and gochujang unless verified
Useful swaps
- Certified wheat-free tamari or coconut aminos
- Rice, rice noodles, shirataki noodles, or certified 100% buckwheat soba
- Rice flour coatings instead of wheat batter
- Homemade sauces using ginger, vinegar, citrus, garlic, and wheat-free tamari
Washoku Plus should warn, explain, and suggest alternatives instead of shaming users or hard-blocking by default.
Restaurant and packaged ingredients can vary. Verify allergy details with labels and the restaurant before eating.
